Elisabetta Fricano (1887 -1972) was born in Bagheria,
Sicily and spent her entire life there. Giovanni Rotino (1882
-1967) migrated to the United States in 1900. He lived and
worked in the United States for five years. Giovanni was very intelligent
and energetic and according to family folklore, within the the first six
months of entering the United States, was able to understand
and speak English. He was greatly appreciated by both American and
Sicilian communities. In 1905, Giovanni returned to Bagheria.
He owned a house, a cart and many vineyards. He also owned a citrus
(lemon) plantation. In 1912, after a long engagement, he married
Elisabetta. All of her life, Elisabetta was very gentle person, devote
wife and good mother. Elisabetta and Giovanni had five children:
Domenico(1913), Maria (1915 July17), Rosa (1918 May 9),
Carmelo (1920-1983) and Gianna (1923-1926). |
