Introduction
Cloisonné is a fine artform composed of porcelain and metal.
Cloisonné is also called inlaid enamel which is the unique technique of the
combination of porcelain and bronze with art. A variety of products are using
the cloisonné technique, like cookware, vases, dishes, cups, teapots and
beads. We use these enameled cloisonné art pieces to handcraft rosary
beads.
Chinese cloisonné, whose history can date back to over 500 years ago,
is a well-known Chinese traditional enamelware. It is actually called the "Blue
of Jingtai" because blue is the dominant color adopted for enameling,
and celestial cloisonné became prevalent during the reign of Jingtai (1450--1456)
in the
China
Ming dynasty. Owing to the brilliant color and splendid designs, cloisonne
has been highly appraised. Regarding the making of cloisonné, it involves quite
elaborate and complicated processes: base-hammering, soldering, enamel-filling,
enamel firing, polishing and gilding.
